Back into 2008, I watched an episode of Mock The Week because Adam Hills was on. It was however a UK comedian on the other team that caught my eye, it wasn’t because he was cute (although that was a bonus) it was his sense of humor and wit that appealed to me. Last night I saw Russell Howard and after six years of waiting, I was not disappointed.
What I admire in Russell Howard, is his ability to draw the audience into his world of his family, to make you feel like one of its members.
I would describe Russell as a narrative storyteller, through all his shows he tells stories to a central theme, last nights show Wonderbox, focused around stories that you pass down within your family. The must have dinner-table stories, per-say.
Through tales of school, family and a touching story at the end, Russell made me remember why I adore stand-up and made me go home and start writing.
